Nominal fire doors are doors where the manufacturer, specification, or certification details are unknown, and there are no identification markings confirming their fire rating. However, these doors are often shown as fire doors on building drawings and display the key characteristics of fire doors upon inspection.

While nominal fire doors cannot be certified under the BM TRADA or any other third-party certification scheme, they can be upgraded, repaired, and maintained under the instruction of the Responsible Person to ensure they perform as intended in the event of a fire.

Many of our clients manage large estates with numerous uncertified nominal fire doors, where full replacement under a certification scheme may not be feasible. To support this, Crown offers a non-certified repair and maintenance service, providing a compliant and cost-effective solution for maintaining fire safety standards.

Our Nominal Fire Door Services Include:

  • Inspecting and adjusting door hardware and self-closing mechanisms
  • Checking and replacing intumescent and smoke seals
  • Ensuring correct door alignment and clearances
  • Verifying structural integrity and operational performance

All works are carried out by Crown’s qualified technicians, acting as Competent Persons in accordance with BS 8214, ASDMA (Architectural & Specialist Door Manufacturers Association) guidance, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

With Crown, you can ensure every door—certified or nominal—meets the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance across your building portfolio.
